Okay, so I watched this documentary by Valve via Steam...
It was a bit dramatic...
But it goes to show that the life of a professional gamer doesn't take slack! It takes hard work and discipline just like any other profession. The players portrayed in the film each had a difficult path to follow. They were on opposing teams but each story was interesting to learn.
I am no expert on the competitive gaming world and I don't think it is right to judge on something that I have not experienced yet, but, the players in the movie had a lot to fight for. I mean, the prize pool was $1 Million and that's enough to change a life!
From watching the film I have learned that being a professional gamer comes with sacrifice. It takes time and energy, discipline and perseverance. You have to know what you want and you have to be prepared to make the sacrifices and maybe even the fall.
So, apart from the film I became more interested in the competition. I just looked up The International Dota 2 Championships and took a peek at this years prize pool. If I'm not mistaken, first prize is $1.4 million but it also appears to still increase!
